Capital of the Regional Natural reserve of High Languedoc, Saint Pons profits from a remarkable natural environment.
Crossroads of very old lanes between the Mediterranean, the black Mountain, the mounts of Somail and Espinouse, St Pons is a history town. The cave man lived there already, there is 6000ans, near the source of Jaur. The municipal museum of prehistory presents its Neolithic civilizations which followed one another St Pons.
It is at the 10th century that Raymond Pons, Count de Toulouse melts an abbey on left bank of Jaur around which a quoted news will increase. In 1077 the abbey did not gather less than 11 monasteries and in 1318 the abbey one is high with the row of cathedral. During wars of religion, in 1567, the abbey is put at bag. This is why, the cathedral, such as you see it today, has sudden many modifications.
Other vestiges: old tower St Benoit, the bridge Our Lady, the convent of the fountain of Récolets, the ramparts, turns, doors, frontages old streets… the office of tourism proposes a circuit of visit of the city
