The
commune of Riols, located at 4 km of Saint-Pons, Bédarieux
direction, extends along the valley from Jaur. It counts among
the
largest communes of France. Riols carries the torch of
the flowered villages of France (2002,2003).
It is in Riols that the first
wind mill of the high cantons made its appearance in February
2004 in the heart of the national forest of the Foothills, on the
heights of the Long Greenhouse, which culminates to 728m, 4 km of
the collar of Rodomouls and dominates the village of Riols and the
valley of Jaur. The diameter of the blades (52 m) is close the height
to the mast (50 m). This wind mill, more points in the solid mass
of the Foothills, is visible road of the valley of cherry (Saint-Pons,
Bédarieux) or road of Mazamet and of course heights of Somail,
since the collar of Cabarétou. Robert Tailhades, mayor of
Riols, saw to rise this first wind mill with satisfaction. This
wind project never made blow the winds of protest. The hiring of
the communal ground will bring back 15 000€/year to the village.
The professional tax, about 38000€, will go to the community
of communes of Saint-Pons.
