This village, that you can see since A75, is registered with
the sites inventory on October 8, 1968 .
With the threshold of Causse of Larzac, dominated
by an imposing cliff, Pégairolles of Escalette is nested in a breach
where formerly the road of wool passed. The village preserved its
medieval character. The frame is dense and the dwellings leaned the
one with the others draw continuous frontages which accompany the
visitor.

The medieval village, mentioned in 1210 like Castrum,
is built mainly on left bank of Lergue.Its
tortuous streets are bordered of houses to the narrow and unequal
frontages. The moon delles, the 15 or 16th century shows a corbelling
which would have sheltered the communal oven. Any narrow passages
are covered dune arches. In the field of the village, the enclosure
drawing is still visible. There remain some vestiges of this one.
Not far from the castle, one finds a cross monumental of the 17th
century, with the calcareous stone base.
The Castle of the 17th century draws up its imposing
mass at the top of the village. It was built on site from strong castle
of 12th of which there remain the vestiges of the keep. It's a vast
quadrilateral whose three angles are made of round towers. The interior
court is bordered west by a frontage with staged galleries. One will
notice high a courtine there Romance. It's a private property.
Church St Jean the Evangelist
should date from the 17th century. It was altered at the 18 and
19th century. It comprises a nave with 5 spans, arched in cradle
and a flat bedside.
