With the threshold of Causse of Larzac, dominated by an imposing cliff, Pégairolles of Escalette is nested in a breach where formerly the road of wool passed. The village preserved its medieval character. The frame is dense and the dwellings leaned the one with the others draw continuous frontages which accompany the visitor.

The medieval village, mentioned in 1210 like Castrum, is built mainly on left bank of Lergue.Its tortuous streets are bordered of houses to the narrow and unequal frontages. It's a private property.

Church St Jean the Evangelist should date from the 17th century. It was altered at the 18 and 19th century. It comprises a nave with 5 spans, arched in cradle and a flat bedside.
