History of the Lauroux commune, to approximately
7 km of Lodève
and the foot of the last buttresses of southernmost Larzac. Lauroux
is located at the confluence of two rivers the "Laurounet" and
the "Rauzet", whose water, coming from the Escandorgue/Larzac
limit, joins those of Lergue.
One of the sources of Lauroux feeds drinking
water Lodève
in addition.
The valleys dug by these two small rivers are occupied by the
man since prehistory, as the cave testifies some to Labeil, located
upstream of Laurounet and opened with the public (see low page).
In the cartulaire of Lodève, a valley of Lauroux and a
church Saint-Pierre de Cros are mentioned in IXème century.
In 1162, it is mentioned a villa of Lauras. Two other dates are
noticed by the historians: 1586, letter autograph of the Bishop
of Lodève asking to reinforce the guard around Lauroux;
1622, by authority of the diocese of Lodève, on November
14, it are interdict with the soldiers of Clermont to plunder the
ground of Lauroux.
Today, part of the fortifications dating from
the Middle Ages is visible. The church Our-Lady of Lauroux, strengthened
in XIVème
century, has a nave of XIème and XIIème centuries,
voutée in cradle broken. In the west, in the valley of Rauzet
remain the vestiges of the old Saint-Pierre church of Cros, of
style pre-novel.
To visit in Lauroux: the cave of Labeil, the
church, pisciculture…
(article Archaeological Group Lodévois).
In the vicinity, located in a circus dolomic at
an altitude of 700m, the natural entry of the cave of Labeil is
an old cellar with Roquefort which allows an access of full foot
the underground river. After having traversed the river you reach
the cristallé network
of this alive and richly coloured cave. The visit lasts approximately
1 hour. It is advisable to hold: tel.04.67.96.49.47. |
